Clayton State currently eighth after first day of Peach Belt Conference Men’s Golf Championship

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – April 9, 2012 – The Clayton State Laker men's golf team got off to a tough start on Monday at the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Men's Golf Championships, but made some strong improvements to stand eighth overall after the first two rounds at Callaway Gardens-Mountain View.

The Lakers had rounds of 309 and 303 to stand eighth overall with a 612 in the 11-team field. Clayton State holds a three-stroke lead over North Georgia, a four-stroke lead over Montevallo and a five-stroke cushion over Lander. The Lakers trail both Flagler and Armstrong by 18 strokes.

UNC Pembroke leads after the first day with a 3-over-par 579 (288-291), three strokes ahead of USC Aiken.

Individually for Clayton State, sophomore Tyson Beaupre is currently tied for 25th overall with a 7-over 151 (78-73). After shooting 6-over in the first round, Beaupre was 3-under through the front nine of the second round, recording an eagle on the par 5 No. 16 hole. However, a double-bogey on the back nine brought him down to 1-over for the second round.

Beaupre trails overall leader Joel Dahlenburg by 11 strokes.

In addition to Beaupre, junior Chris McManus is tied for 27th with an 8-over 152 (75-77), while freshman Ryan Haskell is tied for 43rd with a 155 (76-79). Rounding out the Laker scoring is senior Clark Nelson in 47th with a 156 (80-76) and freshman Will Shenstone tied for 50th with a 158 (81-78).

The third and final round of the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Men's Golf Championship is set for Tuesday at the Callaway Gardens-Mountain View.
